Judy Southerland

Travel Lines includes experimental drawings and a few discreet projects--all works on paper considering the relationship between precision and the moving mark.

Seen from the car, a flashing center line on the road is a powerful symbol for escape and adventure, but walking the road as a child, I realized the static yellow shapes have a dual nature. In southern culture words were primary in translating experience but I found drawing had the power to reveal secrets and become an antidote to corrupted stories and games.

These works are completed in stages, almost all having quick, intuitive passages along with slowly built, carefully constructed motifs.
